The sun shines on a woman and baby. MOMS makes a difference.

To do more, it takes more! Simple!

MOMS is a grass-roots nonprofit. About 150 donors give about $350 annually. With this, we certify 125 CHWs, train trainers, support our staff, and function legally. We are awestruck by the generosity of all you good people.

And…

Development — making significant, enduring change — is not a "one and done" kind of deal. It is building relationships, developing trust, providing ongoing support as the people develop their capacity and independence. MOMS builds capacity and that takes time.

So, please give generously because you will make real change, sustainable change, in the lives of thousands of people. Generations of women and babies will survive and thrive because of you.

Facebook carries frequent fundraisers for us. Either we create them or others do, for their birthday or other celebrations. Our Facebook page has a "Donate" button on it. If you donate through Facebook (or GoFundMe, etc.), please keep your receipt. We often get no contact information, so we cannot send a letter of thanks or a receipt. Click here: https://www.facebook.com/MOMSMidwives. And please know that we are grateful, even if we can't tell you directly!

We got platinum again!

We take the time to ensure that our supporters know who we are and how we work. We certify with Candid (Guidestar), and several other groups.

MOMS qualifies for several corporate matching grants. Please let us know if we are not on your company's approved list, and we will get on it!

Where your gifts go….

We have no paid US staff, and volunteers raise money to pay their own way to Sierra Leone.  We use the money you give for the following:
  • Teaching aids
  • Salaries for our Sierra Leonean staff
  • Food, travel, and housing for the teams while teaching
  • The costs of operating legally and effectively:  Government fees, telephone, this website, etc.

More about Teaching Aids

Remember the old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words?”  This is especially true when teaching.  And a model is worth ten thousand words. Maybe a simulator is worth one hundred thousand words!
We teach many subjects which benefit from a variety of visual aids.
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Fetal development
  • Labor and delivery
  • Newborn care
  • Nutrition
Charts and models deteriorate in the high humidity.  The lamination on the charts peels apart and the paper molds. The flannel grams we use to teach nutrition get matted and dingy — we may be the last group on earth that still uses flannel grams. But they work in places where we have no power or connectivity.

A full set of models and charts costs about $3,500.  Each year we spend about $400 to update them.

Volunteers

MOMS uses few volunteers in Sierra Leone.  As part of our mission, we are developing local people to teach well and administer the program.  At times, we take a volunteer with us who meets all qualifications.  Volunteers work hard. We have no patience for those wanting an opportunity for voluntourism or proselytizing, or any form of colonialism.

Documents page and download the information for volunteers. Then, if you want to know more about this, please get in touch.

Board members set strategy and guide decisions. Board members are ambassadors for MOMS, talking about the work and asking people to help. Board members keep MOMS going by raising money and good will.

Board members frame the future of MOMS!
